ABSTRACT

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum (SPM) is a decisive complication reported to be associated with COVID-19. Here, we present a case of SPM in a COVID-19positive patient that was not caused by any iatrogenic or known reasons. At the time of admission, the patient was COVID-positive and distressed. He was immediately subjected to hematological and radiological investigations (chest X-ray, HRCT), which confirmed pneumomediastinum. The patient was hypoxic and hypotensive even after receiving ionotropic support. Considering the patient's critical condition, a mediastinal pigtail catheterization was performed instead of a thoracotomy, and the catheter was in situ for nine days. Arterial blood gas was monitored during the hospital stay, and supplementary oxygen therapy was provided accordingly. The patient subsequently recovered and was discharged. Hence, SPM in this COVID patient was treated by pigtail catheterization, and major surgical interventions were avoided.Copyright © 2023 LookUs Scientific. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is witnessing a steady increase in adoption by infrastructure and process industries. Industrial equipment manufacturers are one of the key stakeholders in this digitalization journey. The adoption of IIoT by the equipment manufacturers has been slower due to various valid reasons. The present pandemic COVID-19 created disruption in the factory operations in many parts of the world. This consequence has been hard on the manufacturing industry including the equipment manufacturers, and many of their strategic projects are slowing down or derailed. In India, a strict lockdown of three weeks which was later extended for another seven weeks was by far the longest lockdown effecting the industry and the equipment manufacturers. This study probes the impact of COVID-19 on the mindset of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) towards adoption of IIoT. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Attendance is an important part of the academic environment. The manual method of marking student attendance is time-consuming and also not accurate. So, the use of biometric attendance is a better alternative to the manual method. There are many biometric techniques that can be considered to design an automated system to mark attendance. Facial recognition is one such biometric technique that can be used. In this paper, we propose the implementation of facial recognition where the attendance is marked by recognizing the faces detected in the video feed from the classroom. We are in the midst of the once in a century crisis, ever since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out it has become imperative to accommodate certain behavioral changes in our day to day lives, one such major change which is essential to curb the spread of COVID-19 is to wear a face mask, and thus, the facial recognition-based attendance adds another advantage by recognizing the faces even though students would be wearing the masks. Another important measure that needs to be followed to contain the spread of COVID-19 is to ensure social distancing in all public spaces;hence, there is a need to ensure that social distancing norms are followed by the students. So, we propose implementation of a system to monitor the social distancing among the students. Further, we propose to implement a COVID-19 vaccination status monitoring system using which we can monitor the vaccination status of the individuals through the video feed from the classroom. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Mechanical ventilators are beneficial in treating and managing various respiratory diseases, including interstitial pneumonia associated with Coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has led to the emergence of a worldwide need for more accessible and affordable mechanical ventilatory devices. This project, known as the Third Coast Ventilator, aims to create a low-cost, open-source solution to the ventilator shortage created by the COVID-19 pandemic;this device can additionally be implemented in developing countries with limited medical resources, where ventilators are often inaccessible. Using readily available components found within hospitals and local stores, our team designed a prototype that can be assembled and functional within an hour. Our testing demonstrated accurate tidal volume delivery while modulating commonly used ranges of inspiratory to expiratory ratios, air flow rates, and respiratory rates. These promising results are an important step toward our goal of creating a low-cost, open-source, globally accessible ventilator in areas where shortages exist.

ABSTRACT

Purpose This study aims to review the role of green training and green work life balance (GWLB) on sustainable organizational performance (SOP) with a moderating variable "Emotional Intelligence" (EI). Design/methodology/approach For the development of the construct of the present study, a Scopus database was selected and research papers published in indexed journals were considered. Relevant keywords were selected and literature was searched on green training, EI, SOP, GWLB. The literature was reviewed to find out the linkage and possibility of development of integrated model. The main focus was on highlighting the relevance of green training on GWLB and its influence on SOP. Findings SOP can be achieved with the intervention of EI and GWLB;further green training is one of the influential practices of human resource development (HRD) which helps to develop the green behavior. Research limitations/implications It can give new insight to the organization for application of green human resource practices for SOP. Development and designing the cohesive environmental work culture and willingness to protect environment through green training can be implemented by HRD. Perhaps, the application of green training encourages GWLB. Practical implications Quantitative research and cross sectional study is required to find out the intervening role of EI and work-life balance between green training and SOP across a broader range of sectors. Originality/value This research extends the literature review and developed a new integrated model which shows the link between green training and SOP.
